Mountain View man arrested for alleged property and drug crime

(BIVN) – Hawaii police have charged a Mountain View man with a series of property, drug and ammunition offenses following an alleged burglary in Pāhoa.

Dustin Crivello, 34, was arrested on June 5 and made his initial appearance in South Hilo District Court on June 7.

From the Hawaii Police Department:

The charges stem from an incident reported on June 5, 2024 at approximately 11:04 a.m., in which a burglary was reported at a residence in the 15-2000 block of Moano Street in Pahoa.

Officers investigating the incident made contact with the reporting party, who advised them that there was a male group at one of his neighbors’ homes that was not supposed to be there. Officers then made contact with the homeowner, who confirmed that no one was supposed to be in his home or on his property. Upon further investigation, officers were able to determine that numerous items had been removed from the home and property, including his vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with Crivello, who was arrested and transported to the East Hawaii Detention Center where he was booked, processed and further investigated by the Area I Criminal Investigation Division. A vehicle registered to Crivello that was at the scene was seized and towed to the Hawaii Police Department pending the execution of a search warrant.

On June 6, 2024, detectives executed a search warrant on Crivello’s vehicle, resulting in the seizure of the following items:

• Over 1.7 grams of methamphetamine
• A methamphetamine pipe
• A check from the victim
• A live 9mm cartridge
• A receipt from the Kea’au Pawn Shop for Dustin Crivello

Investigators tracked down the Kea’au pawn shop and later learned that Crivello had sold them a Rigid brand table saw that had been stolen from the victim’s home. The table saw was seized as evidence.

After consulting with the Hawaii County District Attorney’s Office on June 6, 2024, investigators charged Crivello with the following offenses:

• First degree burglary
• Second degree theft
• Ownership or possession prohibited
• Place for storing ammunition
• Advertising for a dangerous drug of the third degree
• Unauthorized possession of confidential personal information

The total bail was set at $31,000.

Unable to post bail, Crivello made his first appearance in South Hilo District Court on June 7, 2024.

According to police, the initial investigation was conducted by Puna County patrol officers and was taken over by Detective Kimo Keli’ipa’akaua of the Area I Criminal Investigation Division.
