Kangana Ranaut, the newly elected BJP MP from Mandi in the Indian state of Himachal, made headlines again on Thursday after a CISF policewoman allegedly slapped the actress-turned-politician during a security check at Chandigarh airport.

The accused police officer, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, was heard in the videos that went viral on social media, stating that Kangana Ranaut made derogatory remarks about the 2020 farmers’ protests, which upset her as her mother was also a part of those demonstrations.

The policewoman was later suspended and taken into custody. An FIR was registered against her and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) initiated a commission of inquiry.

In a viral video, Kulwinder Kaur was seen saying, “My mother was there,” referring to Kangana Ranaut’s statement that women were paid in the farmers’ protests 100 are said to be stationed at the border with Delhi.

Rewind to 2020, when scores of farmers marched to Delhi to protest against the now-repealed farm laws. During the farmers’ protests, Kangana Ranaut courted controversy when she misidentified an elderly woman at the demonstration as Bilkis Bano, a prominent figure from the Shaheen Bagh protests.

In a now-deleted tweet, the actor claimed the woman was “available for 100″ to participate in protests. This statement sparked significant backlash and condemnation and led to a heated exchange on social media between Kangana Ranaut and actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh. Dosanjh criticised Ranaut for spreading misinformation and asked her to stop inflaming tensions.

Although Kangana deleted the tweet after widespread criticism, she received numerous legal warnings demanding an unconditional apology for her “derogatory” remarks.
