Tennessee state teacher sentenced to six years in prison for sexually abusing student | Chennai News

VILLUPURAM: A special court hearing cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act sentenced a government teacher to six years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a Class 10 student in a village near Villupuram in Tamil Nadu over five years ago.

Judge (Pocso Court) M Vinodha imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the teacher, identified as V Krishnan, 37, and awarded compensation of Rs 100,000 to the survivor.

The incident took place on March 8, 2019. Krishnan, who was conducting a special class for class 10 students, asked a girl to stay in the classroom while the others left. He sexually abused the girl when she was alone in the classroom. The girl managed to escape from his clutches and narrated the incident to her parents.

Her father lodged a complaint against the teacher with the Tiruvanainallur police. The police registered a complaint against the teacher under sections 9 (aggravated sexual abuse) and 9 (f) (whoever is a member of the management or staff of an educational or religious institution who sexually abuses a child in that institution) of the Pocso Act and arrested him.
