Chhatarpur Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vikram Singh said the girl was playing outside her house when the accused, a neighbour, took her to his house and sexually assaulted her. The incident took place on Monday (June 3).

The minor’s mother heard the minor’s screams and rushed to the house and rescued her. However, she did not file a complaint due to social reasons, Singh said.

“On Tuesday, her condition worsened due to swelling in her private part and the girl’s mother took her to the public hospital for treatment. The medical team at the hospital examined the girl and found that she had been raped,” he added.

The ASP said when the doctor asked the mother about it, she did not say anything, so they called the police. “After interrogation, the girl’s mother told the police about the incident,” the ASP said.

Police said Shukla was arrested on Wednesday and confessed to the crime. A first report was registered under sections 363 (kidnapping) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and under corresponding sections of the Protection of Children Act (POCSO).

The minor was admitted to a public hospital and according to doctors, her health condition is stable, police said.
