Tornado sweeps through Livonia and kills 2-year-old

A 2-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when a tornado swept through Livonia, knocking down a tree that fell on the family’s home.

His mother and two-month-old sibling were hospitalized after a tornado quickly swept through the city, the National Weather Service said.

“We were notified by Livonia Emergency Management that a two-year-old child was killed and his mother and two-month-old baby were injured,” said Steve Considine, a meteorologist with the weather service in White Lake Township. “This was due to a tree falling on their home.”

Livonia residents reported that no warning sirens sounded before or during the storm. The weather service said it did not issue a warning because the tornado developed quickly and the agency did not have time to warn residents.
