Ireland Baldwin admits to being raped as a teenager

Ireland Baldwin has spoken out about her experiences with rape and abortion following the US Supreme Court’s overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision.

The model said in a TikTok video on Sunday that she wanted to raise her voice to help other women feel “supported and loved” after the Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to abortion in America on Friday.

“I was raped as a teenager. I was completely unconscious when it happened and it changed the course of the rest of my life,” she said candidly. “I didn’t tell anyone at the time, not for years. The only person who knew about it was a nurse who treated me shortly afterward. And I didn’t even tell my own boyfriend at the time. Not my parents. No one. I kept that secret to myself for years.”

“I carried so much pain and so much guilt for so long and I went into a downward spiral. I lost control of my life. I drank a lot more. I partied a lot more. I self-medicated. I was in other abusive and toxic relationships. I did pretty much anything to distract myself.”

The 26-year-old daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger said the talks about restricting abortion rights made her think about what she would have done if she had become pregnant and had to raise a baby “while I was going through everything at the time.”

She noted that even with all the “medical resources, money and support” at her disposal, the experience would have been “simply traumatic and impossible.”

Ireland then revealed that she had an abortion years later after becoming pregnant during a “very unhappy” relationship.

“I chose to have an abortion because I know exactly what it feels like to be born between two people who hate each other,” she explained. “But raising a baby without my own financial security, without a loving and supportive partner, that wouldn’t work for me. I chose me and I would choose me again. It’s your life, it’s your decision.”
