Boston man arrested after Dorchester shooting

A Boston man was arrested Friday afternoon on warrants related to previous gun offenses following a shooting in Dorchester eight days earlier in which no one was injured, Boston police said.

Keon Baker, 33, was arrested around 3:37 p.m. near 3 Monadnock St. in Dorchester, Boston police said Sunday. He was wanted on warrants from the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court for illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, police said.

He allegedly tried to flee when officers arrested him. Police had to “escort” him to the ground while they handcuffed him, according to a Boston police report obtained by the Bottom.

He was arraigned in the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court, police said. Details of the arraignment were not immediately available Sunday, and it was unclear whether Baker had retained an attorney to represent him.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for 3 Monadnock Street, police said. They executed the warrant on Saturday and seized three guns and ammunition from the home, the statement said.

The arrest warrants stemmed from an earlier shooting, police said.

According to the police report, on May 23 at 10:42 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation indicating three gunshots near 725 Dudley St. When they arrived, officers found ballistics evidence at the scene.

They searched the area for victims or suspects but found no one, the report said.

According to the incident report, officers found two .380 caliber shell casings at the corner of Dudley and Wendover streets. In the days following the shooting, they were also able to find public and private video footage of the immediate area and view what happened before, during and after the shooting.

The video reportedly shows a person walking from the area of 713 Dudley St. and 3 Monadnock St. toward Columbia Road around 10:40 p.m., the report said. The person is wearing a white T-shirt, black shorts or pants and white sneakers.

The person is then seen crossing Dudley Street from Monadnock Street and walking quickly toward Wendover Street, the report states. When they reach the corner of Dudley and Wendover Streets, they stop at the intersection for a few seconds as a black sedan comes from Wendover Street toward Dudley Street.

They are then seen waiting while the sedan stops at the intersection, the report says. The person then allegedly began shooting at the vehicle as it turned left onto Dudley Street at 10:41 p.m.

The video shows muzzle flashes from the weapon, the report said. The area seen in the video matches the location where the cartridge cases were found.

After the shooting, the person was seen walking back toward Dudley Terrace, then crossing Dudley Street and heading toward 3 Monadnock St., the report said.

Investigators later met with the property manager of 713 Dudley St. and 3 Monadnock St. and found video of the front entrance and rear alley on Monadnock Street, but nothing from Dudley Street. Video from 3 Monadnock St. showed a person wearing the same clothing as the gunman entering and exiting the building several times on the day of the shooting, the report said.

Police distributed fliers featuring the person in the video and received four tips from officers identifying him as Baker, the report said. One officer said Baker frequently visited the park at the corner of Dudley Terrace and Dudley Street, as well as the intersection of Dudley and Monadnock Street.
