Take that! Dying buffalo impales lion during 90-minute battle

This is the moment when a buffalo that was on the menu of a pride of hungry lions manages to fight back against them one last time.

The lion cub was brutally impaled by the water buffalo as it desperately tried to avoid becoming a meal.

Incredibly, the impaled cub remained clinging to the horn for 20 minutes, during a battle that raged for an hour and a half.

However, the five cubs were ultimately victorious and the buffalo crashed while the victors feasted on their prize.

The entire scene was captured by Roan Ravenhill, 28, who works as a ranger in South Africa’s Mala Mala Reserve, who was around 20 meters away during the entire attack.

He said: “There was a fight going on between the Cape buffalo bull and a pride of lions and we could see them jumping on it.

“Suddenly, we could see that a young male had managed to cling to the buffalo’s horn, under its left front leg. He was stuck there for a good twenty minutes.

Inevitable: the buffalo finally became the lions’ dinner (Caters)

“After that time he managed to unhook himself, but he was limping for days afterwards, as we noticed.

“This is by far the longest battle we have ever seen between lions and buffalo. It was difficult to watch, but it is the reality of nature.”
