Driver killed, police officer injured in police-involved crash in Fort Lauderdale – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – A driver was killed and a Fort Lauderdale police officer was hospitalized after an overnight crash.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, the collision occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue, near Powerline Road and just north of Sunrise Boulevard.

Investigators said the driver of a sedan turned into the path of the marked police vehicle.

Authorities said the officer was responding to an emergency call at the time of the accident.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Department rescue units arrived at the scene and took the civilian driver to Broward Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officials said the officer involved was also transported for treatment of his injury, which is not life-threatening.

Police have not yet identified the deceased driver and are awaiting notification of next of kin. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
