Elvira Quinones Obituary – Houston, TX (1927-2013)

Elvira R. “Vera” Quiñones passed away peacefully on October 18, 2013. Vera was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 2, 1927, to the late Porfirio B. Rios and Paulina Dominguez Rios. She married the late Mario Quiñones, Sr., in 1946 and moved to Houston in 1951. She is preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Sylvia Quiñones Santos, her parents and seven of her siblings. Vera was an active member of her community and church. She held many positions throughout her life, including leader of the Girl Scouts and president of the Young at Heart senior group at St Alphonsus Catholic Church. Vera is survived by her remaining children, Elvira “Cookie” Reyna (Larry); Norma Q. Reyna (Cree); Velma Quinones; and Mario, Jr. (Norma); 10 grandchildren, including Gabe Santos (Vicki) of Longmont; and 10 great-grandchildren, including Sylvia and Isabel Santos of Longmont. Services were held at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. Burial was in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sylvia Q.
