Alperen Sengun from Houston Rockets to Charlotte Hornets?

The Houston Rockets have reason to make big moves this offseason, but not every trade idea would be a positive one.

Examples include Bleacher Report’s suggestion that the Rockets trade Alperen Sengun to the Charlotte Hornets.

“The Houston Rockets have several recent lottery picks who will all need major extensions soon, and since their late-season surge came while Sengün was sidelined by injury, there may be a way to ‘have a conversation about acquiring the promising center,’ writes Bleacher Report. “Houston cannot realistically pay market rates for Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., Amen Thompson, this year’s lottery pick and Sengün.”

While the above statement may be true, Sengun is first eligible for an extension this summer, and he will likely earn one given the production he has provided over his first three NBA seasons.

Sengun averaged 21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and five assists per game this season for the Rockets during his age-21 campaign. If he puts up those numbers now, imagine what he’ll be able to do in his prime.

The Rockets would be foolish to part ways with Sengun now, even as they look to the future. He’s shown improvement in each of his three seasons and has the ability to be one of Houston’s key pieces, and he’s demonstrated that more than his teammates thus far.
