18-year-old killed in Memorial Day shooting in Wilmington, Delaware.

An 18-year-old man was killed in a shooting in Wilmington, Delaware, on Memorial Day – three years after his older brother was shot and killed nearby.

Two other young people were injured in the shooting on Monday.

Yazir Tickles was identified as the deceased victim on Tuesday morning. The other victims were only a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy.

Police responded to a shooting in the 2700 block of Thatcher Street around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. When they arrived, they found the three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Tickles and the 17-year-old were in critical condition, according to Wilmington police. The 21-year-old is said to be in stable condition.

No suspects have been arrested or identified in this case and police have not released any further details.

“This incident remains under investigation and additional details will be released as soon as possible,” Wilmington police wrote in an online update.

Almost exactly three years ago, Tickles’ older brother, then 19-year-old Dmajah Tickles, was killed less than a mile away on May 19, 2021. In March 2022, then 35-year-old Tramont Mitchell was arrested and charged with his murder.

Although Thatcher Street runs for less than a mile through Wilmington’s Riverside neighborhood, it has been the scene of at least three shootings in recent years.
