51-year-old man and 2 underage boys arrested for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl

Three persons, including a 51-year-old man and two boys, were arrested by the police on suspicion of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl near Villivakkam for the past six months.

The assault came to light when the girl complained of severe stomach pain to her aunt, who lives in Thiruverkadu. Police said the child was in sixth standard. The girl’s parents are daily wage earners and so came home late, so she could not inform them immediately.

The child told her aunt that one of her cousins had sexually abused her. Later, the woman informed the girl’s mother. She was taken to the hospital, where doctors upon examination found that she had been subjected to severe sexual abuse over a long period of time.

The hospital authorities then informed the Villivakkam police, who transferred the case to the women’s police station. The police then brought all those involved in the crime for questioning and recorded the girl’s statement. She was also sent for medical examination and psychological counselling.

One of the two boys was the girl’s cousin and the other was a neighbor – both were 16 years old. When the other boy saw that the girl’s cousin was visiting her house frequently, he took advantage of the victim’s situation and threatened to tell everyone. A local tailor had also sexually abused the child. Police said the alcoholic parents did not listen to the child when she tried to tell them.

Police have registered a case under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police said 51-year-old Kumar has been arrested. He will be remanded in custody after being produced before a court. The two boys are being kept at the Government Observation Home.
