One dead in plane crash in Spartanburg County

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – One person was killed in a traffic accident Monday afternoon.

According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, 79-year-old Joe Nathan Tucker of Spartanburg was pronounced dead shortly after noon Monday at the scene of a one-car crash on Highway 296 near Frey Road in Spartanburg.

According to the Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when Tucker, traveling east on Highway 296, veered off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole. His vehicle then rolled over and struck a tree.

A forensic investigation is scheduled for Tuesday.
