Weather agency issues warning for possible severe thunderstorms on Sunday, Memorial Day

ROANOKE, Virginia. – 10 News issues a weather alert due to the risk of severe thunderstorms on Sunday and Memorial Day.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is a risk of severe weather on Sunday and Monday.

You need to know that it won’t be wet all day, but it’s important to have ways to get weather information.

This is especially true on a holiday weekend full of barbecuing, rowing, swimming, boating, etc.

On Sunday afternoon there will be isolated thunderstorms from 1 or 2 p.m., which are solely due to the heat and humidity of the day.

However, a group of storms is expected to move west to east during the late afternoon and evening.

FutureTracker: Sunday, 6 p.m.

After sunset on Sunday, the risk of severe weather will decrease.

A weakening accumulation of showers and thunderstorms will continue through Monday morning.

FutureTracker: Monday 10am

During the afternoon and evening, the atmosphere is expected to recover, allowing another or interrupted line of storms to move in from the west along a cold front.

This would likely happen after 5:00 p.m. on Memorial Day.

FutureTracker: Monday, 5:00 p.m.

It would likely move east of 10 News’ coverage area after 10pm.

FutureTracker: Monday, 8 p.m.

While we do not expect severe weather to occur in every single city, county, etc., stronger storms may cause localized storm damage, hail, or brief flooding.

There is a risk of stronger storms on Sunday and Monday.
