School bus driver in West Virginia arrested after drunk driving with children

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. – A West Virginia school bus driver is facing felony charges after multiple calls about a possible drunk driver led to a traffic stop on April 9.

Senior Trooper JL Cavender and Corporal AB Ward arrived at the Camp Conley area on April 9 and located 53-year-old Leslie Watterson of Point Pleasant, West Virginia.


Officials say evidence was collected and examined at the West Virginia State Police Forensic Lab that confirms Watterson was impaired at the time of the initial stop.

According to authorities, on May 23, arrest warrants were obtained in one (1) count of driving under the influence of alcohol with a minor and fifty-three (53) counts of gross neglect of a child involving substantial risk of death or injury.

Watterson was arrested and tried in Mason County.

According to officials, bail was set at $225,000 in cash or surety.
