Fundraiser for two Houston teachers who lost their homes in a fire

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A few Houston area teachers lost everything they owned after their home caught fire. Now the community is coming together to help them raise funds to recover from this devastating danger.

To help these educators get back on their feet and cover expenses that insurance won’t allow, you can donate here.

Kathleen Christopher and Joe Connelly were engaged and planning to get married in December. That was until the unthinkable happened. On May 10, Kathleen woke up at 1 a.m. to find their house on fire. An electrical problem started the fire which quickly engulfed the entire property. The couple was able to evacuate safely, but what followed was loss and heartbreak. The danger burned the walls, roof, ceilings and all their belongings.

Both Kathleen and Joe have served their community as educators for over 20 years. Kathleen has worked in education for 25 years, 17 of which have been with Katy ISD. She has just received her doctorate and continues to devote her time to her dear students. Joe has been a science teacher for over 20 years in Klein ISD.
