A 25-year-old man was punched in the head by a stranger in an unprovoked street attack in Chelsea

A 25-year-old man was hit in the head with a bag by a stranger on a Manhattan street in an apparently random attack, police said Tuesday.

The attack in Chelsea, captured on video, was at least the fourth unprovoked attack in the city in the past week.

The victim, carrying a backpack, was walking along Seventh Avenue when a lanky man jumped at him near W. 23rd St. around 10:50 a.m. Monday, according to video of the incident obtained by ABC7 New York had received.

The victim flinched and backed away just as the stranger, believed to be about 50 years old, swung a plastic shopping bag into the air and hit the pedestrian in the head, the video shows. The perpetrator then fled and could not be caught.

The victim was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital where he was treated for a deep laceration to the back of his head and released.

While the attack was obvious, random police officers tried to determine whether the two men, who are strangers, had a brief interaction before this incident.

There have been at least four seemingly random attacks in the city in the last week, starting last Wednesday when someone punched “Boardwalk Empire” actor Steve Buscemi as he walked along Third Avenue in Kips Bay.

The attack happened around 11:50 a.m. near E. 27th St., cops said. Medics took the “Fargo” actor to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated for bruising, swelling and bleeding in his left eye.

On Friday afternoon, a stranger in Harlem walked up to an 11-year-old girl and, for no apparent reason, swung a box cutter, cutting the child’s long black hair and slashing the back of the teen’s head.

Shaquan Cummings was arrested after Malgorzata Sladek, the child’s outraged mother, and a crowd of witnesses saw Cummings in a doorway near E. 116th St. and Lexington Ave. cornered. Several police officers rescued Cummings from the crowd and charged the attacker with assault and endangering the welfare of a child and weapons possession. When he was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday, he was ordered held without bail.

On Saturday, 36-year-old Amber Lohr was stabbed in the chest in Times Square while accompanying a group of students from western Pennsylvania.

Lohr stumbled outside the Port Gourmet Deli near W. 43rd St. and Eighth Ave. after the attack at 6:15 p.m. backwards, but managed to keep the children she was watching out of harm’s way.

The accused attacker, Cyril Destin, sat back down and was taken into custody. Destin was hospitalized after his arrest. His arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending Tuesday.

Just last month, police officers investigated a series of unprovoked attacks on women, some of which were detailed on Tik Tok.

On April 23, officers arrested 31-year-old Daquan Armstead for a violent series of unprovoked attacks that began on Feb. 12 and continued until a week before his arrest, police said.

He has been charged with multiple counts of assault as a hate crime and aggravated harassment against women in Greenwich Village, Tribeca, the Lower East Side and the Bowery.
