Rockets land No. 3 overall via Nets

During the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery on Sunday afternoon, 14 teams learned where they would select in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.

The Rockets were one of those teams, earning the No. XX overall pick via the Brooklyn Nets selection.

The Rockets have frequented the lottery over the past few seasons, coming back with picks that would land them Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and Amen Thompson. This year, however, their highest selection came from the Nets, who finished with a 31-51 record.

The pick was acquired when then-superstar James Harden was shipped to join Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn. After demolishing this trio, the Rockets were left with some excellent picks. This year, there was only a 4-5% chance of landing in the top four, but a combined 76% chance of landing at #9 or #10.

Even though most draft experts are mostly in agreement that this year lacks less punch near the top, the team will still have the opportunity to choose from a variety of talented prospects.

Now, prospects will head to the NBA Draft Combine to showcase their basketball measurements, skills and knowledge. The 2024 NBA Draft will be the first-ever two-day event, beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, June 26 and concluding with the second round on Thursday, June 27.
