Eleven people die and dozens are injured in a bus accident in West Java

Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) – At least 11 people were killed and dozens more injured on Saturday evening (May 11) when the bus they were traveling on overturned in Ciater subdistrict, Subang district, West Java.

The bus passengers were students and teachers from Lingga Kencana Vocational High School from Depok, West Java, who were on a trip to Subang after graduating.

“Nine students and a teacher on the bus as well as a local resident were killed,” Maxi, head of the Subang district health department, confirmed the number of victims.

In addition, 27 people were seriously injured and 13 people were moderately injured in the bus accident, he said.

The 11 victims killed in the accident were evacuated to Ciereng Regional General Hospital in Subang district, Maxi said.

Meanwhile, the injured were evacuated to Ciereng Regional General Hospital and other health facilities in the district, including Hamori Hospital and Jalancagak and Palasari public health centers.

The local office manager noted that the total number of bus accident victims was 60 people.

On Sunday morning, the coffins of the eleven victims were handed over to their families under police escort. While the coffins of the ten victims were transported to Depok, the coffin of another victim was brought back to Subang.

Families of injured victims have also brought their relatives home to Depok to continue their treatment.

Meanwhile, the head of the West Java Police Public Relations Department, Senior Commissioner Jules A. Abast, said the bus lost control on a downhill road and overturned before stopping on the opposite side.

In addition to the bus itself, three motorcycles and a minibus were also involved in the accident.

“The bus rolled to the right – the left side was up – then skidded on the road and collided with three motorcycles parked on the side of the road,” he said.

The police investigation into the accident is ongoing. Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) also sent its team to investigate the accident.
