Match Preview: DC United @ Atlanta United FC May 11, 2024

After sharing points with Philadelphia at home last weekend, DC United find themselves grouped in the Eastern Conference standings with the Union, NYCFC and Charlotte FC all currently tied on 14 points.

The failure to secure all three points was not without its positives, however. Christian Dájome scored his first goal of the 2024 MLS season and rookie Jacob Murrell scored the first goal of his MLS career with a well-placed strike.

The play on the field was also promising, with DC United controlling much of the match only to see the score increased thanks to an incredible late strike from Union’s Jack McGlynn.

This weekend, the Black and Red travel to Atlanta to face the Five-Stripes who sit just below DC in the standings.

Giorgos Giakoumakis leads Atlanta in scoring so far this season, with five goals in just seven games played. But Atlanta’s real standout this season has been its defense, which has allowed just nine goals in nine games.

With limited scoring this weekend, DC United will need to be sharp on both sides of the ball to return to the nation’s capital with all three points.

After entering the league recently, in 2017, Atlanta United FC got the better of DC United. DC United’s overall record against Atlanta stands at 6-1-9 (WDL).
