Horse hit and killed by truck on Illinois Route 4

ALHAMBRA — A horse was killed early Tuesday morning when it was struck by a truck on Illinois Route 4 at Fruit Road in Alhambra. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when several horses escaped from a farm near the crash scene.

A truck struck and killed one of the horses that was on the highway. The truck then left the road and hit a power pole. The pole came loose from the wires and landed on the truck. The driver apparently did not suffer any serious injuries.

Alhambra firefighters and an ambulance from the Hamel Fire Department arrived at the scene. The horse was found dead and another horse was still wandering around the area before the owner picked up the dead horse and worked to remove it from the road.

Crews from Southwestern Electric Cooperative were called to the scene to replace the fallen pole. Illinois State Police were investigating the cause of the accident Tuesday morning.
