Investigations underway into sexual assault in West New York


WEST NEW YORK, NJ – The Hudson County District Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit, in cooperation with the West New York Police Department, is currently investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 27, 2024.

According to District Attorney Esther Suarez, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Hudson Avenue and 51st Street. The 40-year-old female victim reported encountering an unknown man who subsequently attacked her and forcibly grabbed her hair before committing the sexual assault.

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. The Hudson County District Attorney’s Office is asking anyone with information about this incident or other similar crimes to contact the Special Victims Unit at 201-915-1234.

  • Urgent search for missing 11-year-old girl in Pittsburgh

    PITTSBURGH, PA – Pittsburgh Police are urging the public’s help in locating 11-year-old Alice Irankunda, who was reported missing after leaving her home. Alice is described as 5’2″ tall and weighing about 100 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair that she often wears tied back in a bonnet.

    Alice was last seen wearing jean shorts, a white shirt, and black Crocs. She is known to frequent areas such as Northview Heights, Riverview and Sue Murray Pools, Downtown, and the Hill District.

    Anyone with information on Alice’s whereabouts is asked to immediately contact Pittsburgh Police at (412) 323-7141 or 9-1-1. The public’s help is critical to ensuring her safe return.

  • Smyrna man arrested for 7th DUI offense in Townsend

    TOWNSEND, DE – Delaware State Police have arrested Linwood Sample, a 52-year-old man from Smyrna, Delaware, for driving while intoxicated. It is his seventh offense. The arrest was made early this morning following a traffic stop for erratic driving.

    On July 28, 2024, at approximately 12:34 a.m., a patrol officer on U.S. Route 13 near Fieldsboro Road observed a gray Dodge Magnum with a fake Pennsylvania license plate weaving between lanes. After observing several traffic violations, the patrol officer conducted a stop on Fieldsboro Road. During the interaction, Sample exhibited clear signs of impairment, prompting the patrol officer to conduct standardized field sobriety tests, which resulted in his arrest.

    A subsequent computer check revealed that Sample had six previous convictions for drunk driving. He was transported to Squad 9, where he was arraigned and tried by the Justice of the Peace of the 11th Judicial District. Sample is currently being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $6,500 bail.
