Texas Rep. Cuellar vows to cooperate with FBI investigation as agents descend on Laredo neighborhood

As part of an unspecified police investigation, federal authorities visited the home of Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar in Texas on Wednesday.

In a brief statement, the FBI confirmed that agents were present “near” Cuellar’s residence in Laredo, Texas, conducting a “court-authorized law enforcement action.”

“The FBI cannot comment further on an ongoing investigation,” the statement said.

Late Wednesday, Cuellar’s office vowed to help federal authorities.

“Representative Cuellar will fully cooperate with any investigation,” said a statement from the representative’s office, which did not specify the nature of the investigation. “He is committed to ensuring that justice and the law are upheld.”

Earlier this year, Cuellar, whose district includes a section of the Texas border with Mexico, joined Senator Lindsey Graham (RSC) in calling for the Biden administration to appoint a “border czar” to deal with the influx of migrants.

Cuellar said in July that the government needed to pay attention to local border communities and border patrol agents working in the region.

“They don’t need a pat on the back. They need help down there at the border,” Cuellar said at the time. “Something has to change when it comes to immigration issues at the border.”
