Boar’s Head liver sausage and other cold cuts recalled – Boston 25 News

Boar’s Head Provisions Co. has recalled all liver sausages because they may be contaminated with listeria. Sausages processed on the same day on the same production line are also being recalled.

In total, the company is recalling approximately 207,528 pounds of meat.

The liver sausage was produced between June 11 and July 17 and has a shelf life of 44 days, the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture said.

The products were shipped to retailers in 3.5-pound loaves that can be cut into smaller portions at delis, and carry a label that reads “Boar’s Head Strassburger Brand Liverwurst MADE IN VIRGINIA” and a best-before date between July 25, 2024 and August 30, 2024.

Other sausage products manufactured on June 17th that are affected by the recall include:

  • Boar’s Head VIRGINIA HAM OLD FASHIONED HAM with a best before date of August 10th
  • Boar’s Head ITALIAN CAPPY HAM with best before date 10 August

All recalled products have the number EST. 12612 printed on the USDA certification mark.

Consumers are urged not to consume the recalled products, but to throw them away or return them to the place where they purchased them. They are also urged to clean their refrigerator to avoid cross-contamination, according to the FSIS.

Listeria can cause listeriosis, which causes symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. There are also gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea. Listeriosis can be dangerous for pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
