Officers deescalate and arrest suspect without incident after he shoots at TV in La Plata residence – Southern Maryland News Net

Alfredo Jason Arroyo, 45, of La Plata

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:50 a.m., officers responded to a report that a man fired a shot at a television during an argument and threatened two people who were inside the home.

The police immediately set up a cordon around the house while another police officer was able to make telephone contact with the armed person.

Through dialogue, the officers managed to persuade the man to peacefully leave the house and take him into custody there.

The two people who were also in the house were not injured. A firearm was seized at the crime scene.

The suspect, 45-year-old Alfredo Arroyo of La Plata, was charged with first-degree assault, malicious damage to property and other related charges.

De-escalation techniques are crucial for police officers when they arrive at potentially dangerous locations. Their goal is to resolve conflicts as quickly and safely as possible.

Sometimes quick responses are necessary, but officers trained in de-escalation can effectively defuse tense situations through communication and conflict resolution strategies. Officer Harden investigates.
