WARNING DAYS due to dangerous heat from Monday to Wednesday

BALTIMORE – Dangerous heat and high humidity are expected Monday through Wednesday, with isolated strong storms possible in the afternoon.

Heat warnings are in effect for the entire WJZ First Alert Weather broadcast area on Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The following counties are affected by the heat warning:

In Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Caroline, Cecil, Harford, Howard, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties, the heat index will peak at around 110°.

A heat warning is in effect for Carroll County from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, with heat index temperatures expected to be around 40°C.

Temperatures in much of Maryland rose to over 35 to under 38 degrees this afternoon. BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport reached a record high of 38 degrees, set in 1954.

The isolated strong to severe storms that were still present this afternoon have now subsided. We are not expecting any further thunderstorms this evening or tonight. It will be a warm night with temperatures between 25 and 25 degrees and partly cloudy skies.

Even more dangerous heat is expected on Monday, and that’s why our WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued warning days for the possibility of dangerous to extreme heat Monday through Wednesday. Everyone should take heat precautions like drinking plenty of water, taking breaks from air conditioning, avoiding direct sunlight, and checking on pets and the elderly. Highs on Monday will be near 100°F. Highs on Tuesday will be near 100°F, and highs on Wednesday will be near 95°F.

The heat index will be between 104° and 110° from Monday through Wednesday.

Overnight lows will generally be between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Monday and Tuesday afternoon and evening, but not everyone will get wet.

A strong cold front will approach the region on Wednesday. Ahead of this front, temperatures will rise to the high 30s. It feels like temperatures will again top 38 degrees. Strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds will develop ahead of the cold front, bringing the potential for damaging winds, heavy rains, and lightning to the region. In addition to the EXTREME HEAT WARNING DAY on Wednesday, we must pay attention to the weather as widespread severe weather is possible.

Behind the front on Thursday we will see a residual shower or a thunderstorm, especially south of Baltimore. The maximum temperatures will be over 30 degrees.

Seasonal heat is expected from Friday through next weekend, with highs in the 30s. Humidity will rise again next weekend and there is a chance of thunderstorms. Right now, the chance of thunderstorms is highest between Saturday evening and Sunday.
