Teen delivery driver recovers after attack by two dogs in Sumner County, Tennessee

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Monday was a normal day at work for a teenage pizza delivery driver in Sumner County – until it wasn’t.

Sixteen-year-old Logan Burns’ workday ended in the hospital earlier this week after he was attacked by two dogs while delivering pizza for Easy Cheezy Pizza in Westmoreland.

“He’s a great guy,” said Burns’ boss Travis Stafford. “I couldn’t ask for a better employee.”

On Monday, July 8, just before closing time, Burns turned into a driveway off Scott Lane and was attacked by the two large dogs.

“I hate that something so tragic has happened to someone who has a future like his,” Stafford said. “He definitely has a bright future.”

The teenager was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

“The surgery took four and a half hours because he is secured with staples from the neck down,” said Jerry Burchett, Burns’ pastor at Hartsville Church of Christ.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the family with medical bills.

In addition, the Hartsville Church of Christ will distribute all donations to Burns’ family beginning Sunday, July 14, according to Burchett.

The dogs involved in the attack were reportedly euthanized.

News 2 spoke to Paul Russell, a friend of the dog owner, who said: “The woman is very sad. She is completely distraught. Not only has she lost her dogs, but this boy has been injured.”

Burns is well known in town. According to his friends, he is hardworking and popular.

Although the teenager has left the hospital, doctors are monitoring his recovery.
