California mother found dead, her two children and father missing

Police are searching for a man and his two children after the children’s mother was found dead in a home in Sacramento, California – and authorities believe the father’s vehicle crossed the border into Mexico.

On Monday, July 8, just before 7:30 p.m., Sacramento Police officers responding to a 911 call found a woman dead, according to a press release shared on Facebook.

The victim’s children, Athena Lee (4) and Mateo Lee (2), were not found in the apartment, nor was their father, Camron Lee, police said.

The woman’s identity has not been made public. The cause and manner of death have not been disclosed, but police said the homicide squad is conducting an investigation.

“It is believed that the children are with (Camron) and that the Sacramento Police Department has not been able to make contact with him,” the police said in a Facebook press release.

“Investigators would like to speak with (Camron) about the whereabouts of the children,” the press release said.

Camron is believed to be driving a gray 2023 Honda Pilot with California license plate CA-9JUS091. He was not named as a suspect in the press release and it is not clear if he and the children’s mother had a relationship.

In a subsequent update, police said the Honda likely entered Mexico.

In the update, police said finding the children was a “top priority.” Because the vehicle is believed to be in Mexico, it does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, even though the children have been entered into the Missing and Unidentified Persons System (MUPS), police said.
