Woman drowns in boating accident in Lake Conroe, authorities say

WILLIS, Texas (KIAH) — A woman died by drowning in Lake Conroe late Thursday night and two men were arrested for drunken boating, Montgomery County officials said.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, authorities received a 911 call informing them that a woman had fallen out of a boat near Scott’s Ridge Boat Ramp, north of FM 1097 off Lake Conroe in Willis.

The Montgomery County 1st District Marine Division, along with Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, Montgomery County Hospital District, North Montgomery Fire Department, and Conroe Fire Department responded to the scene within minutes.

Authorities said they found two men in the water and brought them to safety. At around 11:30 p.m., rescue divers found the woman’s body.

According to investigators, the incident occurred when two boats, one of them a pontoon boat, collided, causing the 31-year-old woman to fall from the pontoon boat into the lake.

Two men and a woman jumped into the water to find her. They feared the other woman had also drowned, but it was later determined that she was fine.

Texas Parks and Wildlife agents took the lead in the investigation, arresting the operators of both boats and charging them with DUI. They were taken to the Montgomery County Jail.

The name of the drowning victim was not released pending an autopsy.
