19-year-old British woman is “raped by employee in the back room of a nightclub” while on holiday in Portugal

Portuguese police are investigating the alleged rape of a British teenager in a Lisbon nightclub.

The 19-year-old holidaymaker said that a nightclub employee forced himself on her in a back room of the popular dance club Urban Beach on the Tagus.

The unnamed employee claims the sex was consensual.

Club bosses have announced an internal investigation while detectives investigate the incident.

The alarm was triggered yesterday morning shortly before 5 a.m.

Friends of the young Briton are said to have called the PSP police in Lisbon, which has now passed the case on to a special unit of the Policia Judiciaria that deals with sexual crimes.

The clubber was taken to Sao Jose Hospital in Lisbon so that she could be examined by a specialist.

A spokeswoman for the PJ police confirmed this morning: “We are investigating an alleged rape in a nightclub in Lisbon.”

A well-informed source said: “The alleged rape victim is a 19-year-old British woman who was apparently on holiday in Portugal.”

Paulo Damaso, the nightclub’s manager, told the respected Portuguese daily Correio da Manha: “We have already launched an internal investigation and as part of this investigation the employee in question will be questioned.”

“He claims that the sexual relationship with the plaintiff was consensual.”

“Whether that is the case or not, we deny that such incidents have occurred in our facilities.”

Urban Beach describes itself online as “Lisbon’s hottest nightclub where the party never stops.”

Partygoers are encouraged to “prepare for a night of energetic beats and epic DJ sets that will have you dancing all night long.”
