Boating accident in Long Beach leaves one dead and ten injured

One person was killed and several others were injured Wednesday evening when a 48-foot motorboat crashed into the Alamitos Bay pier in Long Beach.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene at around 9:21 p.m. and found 11 people at the scene, including a man in his 50s who died in the accident.

Six patients requiring more intensive care were taken to hospitals by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, while four others were taken to the hospital by emergency medical technicians, said Capt. Jack Crabtree of the Long Beach Fire Department.

Crabtree said the boat was probably traveling at 65 km/h when it hit the pier.
