Topekan arrested after false bomb threat at Stormont Vail Events Center

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A Topeka woman is in jail after a false bomb threat was made at the Stormont Vail Events Center.

Shortly before 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, the Shawnee County Emergency Operations Center received a call about a bomb threat at Southwest Topeka Boulevard and Southwest 19th Street, Stormont Vail Events Center, according to a news release from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).


According to the sheriff’s office, several officers arrived at the scene and evacuated the building. An SCSO police dog unit searched the area and was unable to locate any explosive devices. Upon investigation, it was determined that an individual had told people he had placed a bomb in the arena.

A 28-year-old Topeka woman was found nearby and arrested. She was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on suspicion of aggravated criminal threat. The investigation is ongoing.
