The mother of a man who was beaten and kicked at a bus stop met the Good Samaritan who intervened and saved his life.

MMA fighter James William, 31, rushed to the aid of Linda’s 39-year-old son Jay, who was brutally attacked at the Nambour bus station north of Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.

The father of two was admitted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

His attacker, who beat him severely and repeatedly stomped on his head, is still on the run five days later.

Mr. Williams’ instincts kicked in and he ran to stop the attacker, losing several teeth in the process.

“(The attacker) kicked him in the head before I could get there,” he told Nine News.

Linda is extremely grateful for Mr William’s intervention and says she hopes the attacker will be caught “before anyone else gets hurt.”

Her son is still in the intensive care unit.

“We are very hopeful for a full recovery. It’s tough, but we’re on the way there,” she said.

The emotional grandmother hugged Mr William and thanked him as the two met for the first time on Thursday.

“I just want to thank you for being there, because circumstances could have been very different,” she told him.

Mr. William replied, “I couldn’t stop it, but I’m glad I was able to chase him away.”

Footage taken by a shocked passerby shows William, who is trained in jujitsu, wrapping his body around the man, but then breaking free and fleeing the scene.

Mr William said the man had “gone mad” and he felt he had to protect those around him.

“If I hadn’t known jujitsu (a martial art based on wrestling and submission), I would have been in big trouble,” he said.

“He went after some poor guy, King hit him, and before I could turn around and go over there, he had probably been kicked in the head ten times.”

The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Sergeant Craig Mansfield said police were “concerned” about the condition of the attacker, who appeared to be “under the influence of certain substances.”

“The attacks on these two victims were apparently random and apparently unprovoked,” he told reporters earlier.

“It was a brutal attack.”

The attacker was described as white and wearing a grey sweater, dark shorts and flip-flops.

Anyone with information, including footage of the brawl, is asked to contact police.
