Fatal shooting near 38th Street, Belleview in KCMO under investigation

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Kansas City, Missouri police are investigating a homicide in the 1000 block of W. 38th Street.

On Monday, officers were called to the area shortly after 2:30 p.m. because shots had been fired. En route, the call was upgraded to a shooting.

Police found an adult man with gunshot wounds in a shared stairwell of an apartment building in the area.

Despite medical assistance, the victim’s death was confirmed on the spot.

Because it is a “densely populated neighborhood,” investigators are searching for surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the violence, police said.

This incident was the second homicide case to which the KCPD responded on Monday.

Police had previously found a man shot dead in the parking lot of a church in southern Kansas City.
