Two people arrested after a SWAT team executed a search warrant as part of a burglary investigation

COLUMBUS, Indiana – Two suspects are in custody after the Columbus Police Department (CPD) SWAT team executed a search warrant on their home.

The search warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into a break-in at a local business
Earlier this month, said Sergeant Skylar Berry, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department.

On June 12, Columbus police officers took a burglary report at a store in the 4500 block of North Long Road. They later discovered that tools were missing and they had video footage of the two suspects, Berry said. Investigators from the CPD’s Intelligence Led Policing (ILP) Unit and the Criminal Investigations Division were able to identify Brian Sheckles, 24, of Trafalgar, and Anthony Sanabria, 27, of Columbus, as the suspects who entered the store, investigators said.
Sheckles was previously arrested by CPD officers on June 18 on a preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, and remains in the Bartholomew County Jail.

On June 21, investigators obtained a search warrant for Sanabria’s home, 4972 N. County Road 150W Lot 14, to search for the stolen tools. The CPD SWAT team executed the search warrant later that day, and Sanabria and Nicole Hernandez, 41, of Columbus, were initially arrested. The Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET) then obtained a search warrant. With the second search warrant, officers were able to find drugs, drug paraphernalia and a handgun in the apartment, Berry said. Sanabria was arrested for preliminary burglary, a Level 5 felony.

Hernandez was arrested and provisionally charged with maintaining public order,
Level 6 felony, possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony, possession of cocaine, a Level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible against all three individuals.

The ILP Unit, SWAT Team and JNET are combined teams consisting of officers from the Columbus Police Department and deputies from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.
