Great heat until early next week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The heat will increase each afternoon through at least the middle of next week. Afternoon highs will be between 35 and 37 degrees each day in the southern half of the state. Humidity will also increase on Monday and Tuesday, making it feel even hotter outside.

Rain is our only chance to escape the scorching heat… but the next few days will see very sporadic rain at best.

After a hot start to the weekend, the skies will remain mostly clear tonight. The wind will be light and lows will be between 15 and 21 degrees.

Sunday will see more sunshine and a few clouds. Highs will reach the upper 90s with a west wind around 5 mph. Scattered showers are possible, but mostly it will stay dry. Lows will be around 70 degrees with clear skies.

Monday and Tuesday are the days we’ll be watching closely. Highs will be between 35 and almost 38 degrees. Humidity will be a little higher, making it feel like 38 to just over 38 degrees. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible each day, but most of the time it will be hot and dry. Lows will be around 21 degrees, with a few clouds and scattered showers overnight Tuesday into Sunday.

Due to high heat and humidity, heat index readings could reach dangerous levels. *If* that happens, a FIRST WARNING could be issued on Monday and/or Tuesday. We will monitor the situation closely through the end of the weekend and let you know if conditions worsen.

From the middle and end of the week the probability of rain increases, with rain becoming more frequent on Wednesday and Thursday.

Due to the expected slight increase in rainfall, maximum temperatures will drop slightly by the end of the week… to 35 to 40 degrees. Humidity will be noticeable, so despite the slight cooling, it will still be hot.

In fact, there will be isolated rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday. Maximum temperatures will be between 35 and 35 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures around 21 degrees Celsius.

From Friday and Saturday the chance of rain will be slightly lower, with highs in the afternoon of around 35 degrees Celsius and lows of around 21 degrees Celsius.

With the heat and humidity expected, caution is advised! It is important to remember the signs and symptoms of heat stroke and exhaustion. Also remember to drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Also take breaks during the day when you are outside, especially during the hottest part of the afternoon. It is also important to use sunscreen when you are outside in the summer sun.
