LPD says this is an active investigation. Police have increased patrols in the area and are working closely with the Leander Parks and Recreation Department to increase staff visibility and ensure any suspicious activity is reported.

Police are asking visitors to Leander Park to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. Report suspicious activity to the police immediately and stay within sight of friends and family.

“We encourage people that if they happened to be in the park, they would take video on their phone, there are some baseball fields that border this park. If you happen to be out there and film your child swinging the bat, please review the footage and see if you have filmed anyone matching the description of the suspect and also see if any homeowners in the area have surveillance videos of this time of day please contact us,” said Lt. Mike Mohler of the Leander Police Department.

According to the police, such cases do not occur frequently in Leander.

“This is an isolated incident like this, especially an attack like this in a park at this time of day,” Mohler said.

However, it is important to be vigilant.

“We recommend people stay alert when walking through parks, especially at night, not to concentrate on their cell phones but to be aware of their surroundings. If it’s dark or dimly lit, try traveling, going for a walk with a group of people,” Mohler said. “If you see something, say something. If you see anything suspicious, please let us know. Call the police. Always trust your instincts. If it doesn’t look right, let us know.”

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Sgt. George at 512-528-3839 or email [email protected].
