Man dead after police-involved shooting in Craig: Police

DENVER (KDVR) – A man is dead after Craig Police and the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office said an officer-involved shooting occurred Friday night.

Details are limited, but authorities issued a joint news release about the incident, saying officers responded to a report of a man with a handgun at a residence in Cedar Mountain Trailer Park, 925 W. 1st Street, around 9:40 p.m.


“When the officer and his deputy arrived at the scene, they were confronted by a male offender brandishing a handgun. An officer-involved shooting ensued,” the press release said.

According to the press release, a Craig police officer and a deputy from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the shooting.

Police assisted the man until emergency services arrived and he was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, the press release said.

Further details about the incident are not being released at this time. The officer involved and his deputy have been placed on paid administrative leave and the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.

“Further details will be released as needed, keeping in mind the ongoing investigation,” the press release said. “The agencies involved are responsible for releasing the names of their officers/deputies involved.”

CIRT members will continue to interview witnesses and those involved in the coming days. An internal investigation will take place independently of the CIRT investigation.
