Neighbor reacts to investigation into double murder in Washington City

Neighbors recounted what happened the night police responded to a shooting in their Washington City neighborhood Tuesday that allegedly involved Mia Bailey.

“I didn’t hear the shots, the houses are very well insulated,” said Richard Zyszkiewicz (Zis-ke-wich).

Zyszkiewicz was at home when he heard sirens in his neighborhood on Tuesday.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE on MIA BAILEY:

“When I finally walked out the front door, I just thought, ‘Wow, it’s right here!'” Zyszkiewicz said.

He said by the time he realized what was going on, the suspect had already disappeared.

According to the documents, Mia Bailey shot her parents and tried to kill her brother.

The brother and his wife escaped through a basement window, officials said.

“The brother and the woman were there under police guard, and of course she was obviously very upset,” Zyszkiewicz said.

Zyszkiewicz said he never expected something like this in this friendly and welcoming community.

Documents show that Bailey, a transgender woman, had an argument with the family before entering the home through an unlocked back door with murderous intent.

“My personal view is that this 28-year-old boy may have been influenced by current events,” Zyszkiewicz said.

That a combination of the circumstances of the current events and mental illness could have led to this terrible outcome.

“To be that violent, you had to be pretty excited to do something that crazy, right?” he said. “Obviously there was some friction.”

Zyszkiewicz felt welcomed by the neighborhood when he moved there years ago.

He hoped that the current events and violence would not disturb the peace that prevails in the region.

“The best thing is to talk to people and come to a common agreement,” said Zyszkiewicz, reflecting on the past few days and looking ahead.
