‘Reformed’ Hither Green criminal jailed for raping woman

Nadeem Afzal was imprisoned in the 1990s and early 2000s for various crimes, including violent crimes and drug trafficking.

But the 52-year-old had not been in trouble since 2006 and described himself as a “reformed criminal.”

A court heard how he had led a “socially positive life”, including explaining to delinquent youths how they could change their lives.

However, Afzal was arrested in September last year after being accused of raping a woman twice.

The jury was played disturbing audio recordings in which Afzal threatened to kill the woman.

On Wednesday (June 19), Afzal was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
