Man dies after bullet pierces window of Oceanside apartment

A 26-year-old man is dead after someone fired a shot through a bedroom window outside an Oceanside apartment early Tuesday, hitting the victim in the head.

The shooting occurred at about 1:10 a.m. in a complex on College Boulevard, at the corner of Aztec Street, just north of Oceanside Boulevard, police spokesman Tom Bussey said.

The man was in the bedroom when someone on the sidewalk outside opened fire. A bullet went through the window and struck the man, Bussey said. Others in the apartment sought shelter in a bathroom, he said.

When police arrived, the victim was unconscious. He was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly before 8:50 a.m. Bussey said the victim did not live in the apartment, but was staying there temporarily.

No arrests were made.
