After Ramsay’s accident he looked like a “purple potato”

Gordon Ramsay doesn’t tolerate spills in his kitchen, but he was well prepared for a recent spill he cleaned from his bike. The 57-year-old Hell’s Kitchen The presenter released a PSA on Saturday after a failed bike ride, in which he advocated the use of helmets to avoid serious injuries, reports USA today“This week I had a bad bike accident” in Connecticut, the celebrity chef posted on social media, explaining in an accompanying video that the incident had “really shaken” him.

Although Ramsay said he was “fine” and had “broken no bones or suffered any major injuries”, he noted that he was “a bit bruised and looked like a purple potato” – an image he illustrated by lifting up his chef’s jacket to show an ugly dark bruise stretching across his torso. The shaken chef (who Guardian noted that his hands were actually shaking in the video) also thanked the staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for the treatment, adding that he was “extremely grateful for my helmet, which saved my life.”

He included a photo of the smashed helmet in his social media post, noting that he “wouldn’t be here” without it. He said he was still “in pain” after the “brutal” week he’d been through, but he didn’t let up on the helmet requirement. “You have to wear a helmet,” he insisted. “I don’t care how short the ride is. I don’t care that these helmets cost money… they’re essential.” He added: “Honestly, I’m glad to be here.” (More stories from Gordon Ramsay.)
