Muscle Shoals Police: 15-year-old dead, charges against 16-year-old expected

MUSCLE SHOALS, Alabama — Muscle Shoals police say one teenager is dead and another is in custody in the third such violent incident in north Alabama communities within 24 hours. Officers were called to the Red Roof Inn on Woodward Avenue and found a 15-year-old Tuscumbia boy with a gunshot wound.

The teenager was taken to Helen Keller Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A 16-year-old boy from Florence is said to be in custody and is expected to face charges.

This is the third shooting reported in northern Alabama within 24 hours.

The first police-involved shooting in Athens left a 15-year-old boy dead after police said he threatened officers and family members with knives and guns. Police said the teen pointed a rifle at officers, sparking the shooting. The case is now with the State Bureau of Investigation.

One person was killed in Huntsville late Saturday afternoon following a shooting on Squaw Valley Drive. Huntsville police had not confirmed any suspects or arrests to FOX54 as of 3 p.m. Sunday.

All three incidents are still under investigation.
