Man killed on illegal off-road vehicle in Pennsylvania accident

A man riding an ATV was killed when he was hit by a car in Philadelphia on Thursday night.

According to 6ABC and NBC10, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Broad Street and Westmoreland Street.

According to police, the 35-year-old man was driving too fast when he was hit by a Subaru driven by a 65-year-old woman who was trying to turn left at the time.

The man who was thrown from the SUV was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

According to authorities, the man was riding with two other people on ATVs and was observed doing wheelies.

According to Police Chief Scott Small, it is illegal to drive ATVs on Philadelphia streets.

“It’s very, very dangerous to ride a dirt bike or these quads that aren’t registered, they’re not street legal,” he told NBC10. “A lot of times they’re driving recklessly, they’re driving at high speeds, sometimes they’re doing wheelies, sometimes they’re doing donuts in the wrong direction.”

After the accident, several dirt bikes and other off-road vehicles appeared and surrounded the Subaru driver, causing her to fear for her safety before police arrived, Small said.
