BUFFALO, NY — Sean Mickey is an investigative reporter for 2 On Your Side at WGRZ in Buffalo, NY. He is a native of Brockport and a graduate of the Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University.

Sean moved from WKBW-TV to Channel 2 to launch 2 On Your Side Investigates. During his three years with the ABC affiliate in Buffalo, Sean’s investigations won state, regional and national awards.

Its exclusive investigation into police misconduct found that the Erie County Sheriff’s Office failed to decertify deputies who broke the law. Several deputies were subsequently decertified following Sean’s report. He also became the first journalist to obtain and make public secret New York State Police disciplinary records.

The series received national acclaim and was named a 2024 finalist for the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards, considered the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize.

Other investigations include an expose on the failure to maintain local bridges in satisfactory condition, leading to the anticipated replacement of a bridge on Grand Island. Sean has published several articles on the sexual abuse scandal in the Diocese of Buffalo. He took legal action, submitting an affidavit and joining an amicus curiae in the case Diocese of Buffalo v. Attorney General of New York State, fighting for survivors of clergy sexual abuse.

Sean began his career as an editor at WHAM-TV in Rochester, New York.

While a student at St. Bonaventure, Sean’s reporting on sexual abuse by priests attracted widespread attention, culminating in the renaming of the university’s administration building.
