Cyclist killed in collision with truck at corner of DeWolfe and Mount Auburn Streets | News

A cyclist was killed in a collision with a truck at the intersection of DeWolfe Street and Mount Auburn Street around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Cambridge Police spokesman Robert Goulston confirmed the time and location of the accident in a statement and wrote that “the cyclist did not survive his injuries.”

“CPD and State Police are currently investigating the fatal accident,” Goulston wrote.

The incident, which occurred between Quincy House and St. Paul’s Parish, was the first fatal bicycle crash in Cambridge since July 2022.

The bicycle involved in the accident was a Bluebike, part of the Boston area’s bike share program. The truck was a yellow semi-trailer with the logo of JMC Transportation – a transportation company based in Scituate, Massachusetts – on the cab. The truck remained parked near the accident site for several hours.

A JMC representative declined to comment on the crash.

Shortly after the accident, an ambulance was parked at the intersection and CPD officers directed traffic around the intersection. Officers placed yellow tape around the accident scene and cordoned off the scene with at least five CPD vehicles.

The bike’s front tire was bent and the fender over the rear tire had broken off. Discarded medical equipment, including an automated external defibrillator, lay scattered on the asphalt next to the bike.

As of 6:30 p.m., traffic was flowing again on Mt. Auburn St., but a portion of DeWolfe St. south of the intersection was still closed. At least eight CPD officers and six cars were still at the scene.
