Police reveal identity of body found in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Fairmont Police Department has released information about a body found earlier this week, including the person’s identity.

According to a press release, officers were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. on June 3 to investigate a body discovered in the woods near Oakwood Road. When officers arrived, they said they saw a young woman lying motionless next to a creek bed. A medical examiner pronounced her dead and that she had “obviously been there for several days.”

The woman was officially identified as Courtney Nicole Martin, 30, of Fairmont. Preliminary evidence showed that Martin had been dead for about a week before her body was found and that there were no obvious signs of injuries.

Fairmont police are continuing their investigation into Martin’s death, which includes interviewing known accomplices and evaluating digital forensic evidence. Police are also awaiting a full autopsy report, which will include toxicology findings.

Anyone who believes they have information about Martin’s death should contact the Fairmont Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 304-366-2217.
