One dead Wednesday morning in three-vehicle crash in Wyandotte County

EDWARDSVILLE, Kansas (WIBW) – One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on a Wyandotte County highway Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The accident was reported at 9:27 a.m. Wednesday on eastbound K-32 Highway, just west of the Interstate 435 interchange.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2002 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound in the left lane of Highway K-32 when it merged into the left-turn lane near the I-435 southbound exit ramp.

The Explorer then struck a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was parked in the left-turn lane. The Silverado then struck a 2022 Ford Transit van.

The driver of the Explorer, Rickey Don Newman, 75, of Edwardsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Newman was wearing his seatbelt.

A passenger in the Explorer, Franklin Dale Newman, 50, of Edwardsville, was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with what were believed to be minor injuries. Police said it was unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Silverado, Demond Anthony McMillian, 41, of Edwardsville, reportedly suffered possible injuries and was taken to the hospital by private vehicle. It is unknown if McMillian was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the transit van, Bradley Wayne Guthrie, 26, of Basehor, was taken to Providence Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. Police said it was unknown if Guthrie was wearing a seatbelt.
