First weather warning: Showers and some thunderstorms with a cold front on Thursday

ROCHESTER, NY — Some afternoon storms left parts of northeast Monroe County without power, but the first storm surge is long gone. We’re still waiting for a cold front to move through early Thursday morning. Until then, expect more showers and some thunderstorms overnight and early Thursday morning. Once the front moves through, we’ll feel a big change in weather, with the warm and humid air we’ve had being replaced by less humid air.

Although we’ll have some sunshine at times on Thursday, that sun will help trigger a few more showers, particularly from Rochester to Buffalo, along or just north of the Thruway along a lake breeze convergence zone. This cold front will also set the stage for a pattern change into the weekend. A second cold front will move through into Friday morning, dropping our temperatures to the mid to upper 60s on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, along with isolated sudden showers. These showers will tend to get heavier as the day warms and will be concentrated in the afternoon hours.
